2005 BOY'S VOLLEYBALL RULES

 

1. You must be a member of a parish or attend the school to play on a CYO team / league. Rosters and Agreement of Liability Forms must be presented by the Director to the CYO office in order to receive your schedule. Players may be added to the rosters until the sixth game of the season.

 

2. Officials for the 3rd, 4th 5th, 6th, 5th/6th receive $15.00. The 7th, 8th, 7th/8th receive $18.00 Please pay the officials before the game after they have signed your score book. If a team forfeits a game do not pay the officials. The CYO office will pay the officials. The Scorekeeper must sit at the scorer's table. It is the scorekeeper responsibility to keep track of playing time. You are required to pay $50.00 for a forfeit or no show. All games are to be played as scheduled. The CYO office is the only one able to change games and games will only be changed for school sponsored events that are mandatory. The CYO office must have 1 week notice for any game changes unless a catastrophic reason. Officials have been instructed not to take abuse from coaches or parents. They will ask you to leave or forfeit. Let's demonstrate good sportsmanship. Good sportsmanship should be demonstrated in every aspect of each match: including parents and coaches actions, as well as, players action. We should model proper behavior. Remember we are here for the children.

 

3. All leagues will play by the National Federation Volleyball Rules with CYO modification.

 

   a. You will play 10 matches.

 

b. Third & Fourth Grades Only: The server may only serve four consecutive points, offensive team must rotate their players at that point in time.

 

c. A special rule covers playing time for 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade. Each boy on these teams must play one full game from start to finish. The only exception is if the other team has less players than your team - you only have to play as many players as the other team. This rule is in effect for the regular season as well as the post season tournament. Serving lines for the 3rd and 4th grades may move into the court 15 feet. Serving lines for the 5th and 6th grades may move into the court 10 feet. A line across the entire court must be present directly in front of them in order for 3rd-6th graders to serve all the way across the width of the court . Players serve from the serving lines available, as no other lines will be allowed for substitution.

 

d. In order to uphold the mission of this league and keep the league instructional, these rules will be in effect to replace federation rules. No net serves will be playable. If coaches and players choose to receive serve with an overhead pass (a set), please note that there is a difference between double contacts and lifts. Double contacts are allowed, but lifts are not. This is a judgment call and it will be up to the judgment of your officials.

 

e. For all 7 th and 8 th grade leagues. If games 1 & 2 end later than 40 minutes after the actual start of the match, Game 3 will automatically be rally scoring (0-15). The down referee will record the actual start of the match and determine the duration at the coin toss for the 3 rd game. Captains will be informed prior to the 3 rd game coin toss, whether or not the game will be rally scoring.

g. 3RD through 6TH grade teams may play with 6 or 8 players on the court. In order to rotate 1 or 2 players into the game, only 6 players are allowed on the court at one time. The other player (s) will rotate into the game. 8 PLAYERS IN A ROTATION IS THE MAXIMUM AMOUNT ALLOWED IN A ROTATION.

 

h. SUBSTITUTION RULE: THREE ENTRIES PER PLAYER, PER GAME. FIRST LINE UP COUNTS AS AN ENTRY.

 

  i. You must have 6 players to start a game.

 

  j. The net height from the floor to the top of the net is as follows:

    3rd & 4th ------------- 6 feet

    5th & 6th ------------- 6 feet 6 inches

    7th & 8th ------------- 7 feet 4 1/8 inches

 

  k. Prior to a match you are permitted 5 minutes warm-up time. Gym time is very tight. Grace period for the 1st game will be 10 minutes. The 2nd and 3rd game will be 5 minutes.

  l. No jewelry may be worn during match (including ear rings) . No face paint or colored hair.

 

5. All league games must be played by the week of May 22, 2005. League winners are determined by the total number of games won and not by the numbers of matches won. All three games must be played in every match.

 

6. The tournament will be played May 23, 24,25, 26,27. The tournament pairings will be based on records from eighth match. Every team is automatically entered in the CYO post season tournament. If you do not wish to be entered in the tournament you must notify the office before May 1, 2005.

 

7. Winning team should call CYO office within 48 hours (242-1947). Recorder is on 24 hours a day. You may also post scores on our Web Site www.cyosports.org. When calling in your score leave message in the appropriate mailbox; give the league number, date of game, winning school, and score. If you wish to fax scores - 242-2983. Teams with the most wins will be declared league champions.
